So, its that time of the year again! NEW YEARS!!!! UUUHUUUULLL!

As I go by copacabana every day in the morning I see the progress of all the preparation for the new years party.

This year will be a special year for all the things that have been happening with Rio.  It is expected around 2 MILLION people this year in Copacabana and 20, twenty, minutes of fireworks! There will also be 3 main stages in Copacabana and 1 in Leme, which is right by Copacabana, with bands playing at the beach, laser shows, AND the revealing of the new logo for the Olympics!

Its a very very crowded day and I highly recommend getting there early to settle down, find your spot to get drinks and always be careful with your belongings, like cameras and wallets!

It should be an amazing night and definitely one to remember!

These amazing and very creative guitars are in various places in Rio. So far I have seen them in front of Barra Shopping, in Gave, and in Copacabana.

You can now purchase your Rock in Rio card online at www.rockinrio.com.br. This limited addition card went on sale today and its set to sell fast.

This card will let you in for one day, you will be able to choose which day you want to go, by May, when all the bands and dates should be set. Its set at 190 Reais and normal tickets will go on sale starting July 2011.

This is another huge event that Rio is hosting and will be another record breaking. So far Red Hot Chili Peppers and Snow Patrol are confirmed and there will be many many more.

Rock in Rio will be in November of 2011!! Get ready!

Fun Times in Rio

Well, now that I am finally settled in Rio (I know it took a little bit), I can now go back to Blogging for Fun Times in Rio.

As far as news, there are many good ones. Fun Times in Rio has been busy and will be bigger for 201o-2011, I have teamed up with two more partners and now we will be able to accommodate more people and have more “Fun Times”.  Now that Im back in Rio there will be “publicity” and many more connections to places that other tourism companies and guides don’t have!

Went to Lapa this weekend to have a beer or two and met many many cool people that are visiting Rio. Forgot my camera that day so just took a cell snap shot, just to say I didnt! There was a free concert in the center of Lapa that weekend and there were so many people. Always a good time!

New pictures of what Maracana will look like for the 2014 World Cup have been published!!! A lot of changes will happen in Rio and Brasil for the next couple of years and we all can not wait to see all the changes made!

So, there’s been an email going on with images of the future Olympic Tower for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

I can not wait till 2016, the city will be even more amazing than what it is and full of people from all of the world!!!! This tower is just another thing to add to its beauty!!

This vertical structure will be placed in Cotonduba Island . It will be both a observation Tower , and a welcome sign for the visitors arriving by air and by sea at Rio de Janeiro , where the Olympic Games 2016 will take place. The project is from Zurique, and utilizes solar energy during the day with its solo power panels, to pump the sea water as seen in the model. The movement of the water will be also utilized to turn the turbines and produce the power to work the system at night time.

If you like Pagode and Samba like I do, then Sept. 18th night is one not to be missed!

One of the most popular Pagode and Samba groups like Exaltasamba and Monobloco will be performing in the charming and beautiful Marina da Glória on September 18th!

Inside the beautiful Parque do Flamengo, Marina da Glória is considered one of the most beautiful venues in Rio. It has an breath-taking view, it is very spacious and it also is the departure point for cruises around the bay and off the coast of Rio.

Exaltasamba has always been on the top of the charts in Brazil and this past years it has not been different, with many hits on the radio and packing every show they have been doing, it will, without a doubt, pack the house and be a fantastic show.

Monobloco, a very popular band during Rio’s street carnaval since 2000, has always delivered a high energy performance playing not only Samba but also Bahia’s Axe, Brazilian Funk, and others! Carnaval in Rio wouldn’t be the same without Monobloco.

In resume, this night will be a fantastic night with a great view, samba, pagode and you will feel a bit like Carnaval inside this amazing venue, among other attractions!

The experimental electronica Canadian based band , Crystal Castles in their first time tour in Brazil will be performing at Circo Voador in Lapa September 24th!

The world widely known Crystal Castles’ debut album was included in the “Top 50 Greatest Albums of the Decade” by NME Magazine, at number 39, and is consisted of producer Ethan Kath and vocalist Alice Glass.

If you are around Lapa that weekend, it is worth it checking it out…

Around 15 thousand people went to Av. Presidente Vargas, in Downtown Rio to watch the military parade in honor of the Independence Day. There were around 150 cars and 250 military horses and the presence of the Army, the Marines the Air Force, the Police department, firefighters, and also the Governor of Rio. The Marine also made their parade with ships, frigates, and submarines leaving Barra da Tijuca heading towards the Baia de Guanabara!
